Maputo City

Doing business and living in Maputo

Maputo is the capital and the administrative centre of the country, which is why most registrations, licences, banking and immigration steps are completed here.

Business and economy

Government ministries, the tax authority, banks, embassies and the head offices of most large companies sit in Maputo, alongside the port and the corridor road to South Africa. Services, logistics, finance, construction and the support economy around energy projects dominate local commercial activity.

Living in Maputo

Foreign residents concentrate in the central and southern neighbourhoods within reach of international schools and the bay. Housing ranges from apartments in the city to walled houses further out, and rentals are commonly quoted in United States dollars.
